Shimano xt m760 shifter question?
my right hand shifter to the rear mech on my mtb (xt m760) has stopped working and when i press the bottom lever in ,it doesnt click and hold the cable but instead springs back to its original position and puts the chain on the smallest cog at the back.Can anyone advise me if its possible to strip down the shifter and maybe repair it or if they have had similar problems.Prices on bike parts have went thru the roof and im trying to do everything myself now so any help would be most grateful.
Very likely your shifter is still working but cable tension or tension on the housing is preventing it from engaging properly and it would be best to check these two first and ensure they are correct and doing so will tell you if that shifter is broken internally or not. You can still find these on ebay for very little as Shimano has redesigned the xt shifter in 08 and this one you have is not necessarily desirable anymore over the newer 08 version and yours is 07…and likely cheap for a pair on ebay or nearly any bike shop that has these they will be on clearance or greatly reduced anyway so you dont have to beat yourself up over a new pair, these older ones can still be found!
