so is this shimano rod/reel combo good for trout fishing?
This had better be super for that price! yes it is ,actually.The light action is the key feature of this combo,allowing you to feel the slightest pickup of the bait,and also allows a slow easy tip action to cast very small and lightweight lures that trout find so appealing.You could shop around and find a comparable setup with close to the same,if not the identical specifications as this one.The reel is known as ulltralight,and I would use the lowest weight line rating,to gain distance on the casts@2lb.Just be careful where you use it,if there are big fish there they will snap the line more easily,but you have a trade off here,you want to be able to cast to distant fish,but once you hook them you don’t want to lose them to the very weak and thin line that got them to break…there is usually a weight limit of the lure it will comfortably work with,ok( I would use it on small streams)like 1/4 oz. or some other rating.This isn’t something that you would take to a large river or lake,because the fish would snap off too easily.I have several of this type and they are alot of fun to use.I didn’t pay that much for mine though,I bought them at clearence sales and saved a bundle.See if you can find a less expensive version with the same attributes,and stock up on the specialized lures and baits you will need for this combo to work well for you.
