do they make baitcast reels with no backlash?
i recently purchased a custom x-gen rod off craig’slist
it came witht he “traditional” setup eyelets up, the dude threw an old school penn baitcaster on it for me. i cant cast for crap with this reel and when i do get it out there a ways i get backlash like no other
i cant put a spinning reel on this rod, can i?
so i was wondering if they make a backlash proof baitcaster style.

No, there aren’t reels that’s 100% backlash proof. Even spinning reels could get bird nests. For saltwater reels, Daiwa Sealine SL series (especially smaller ones) are very easy to cast but you could still get bird nests. Penn 525 Mag are very easy to cast but they are still not backlash proof. Generally speaking, reels with smaller, lighter spools are easier to cast compared to reels with bigger and heavier spools. Larger diameter lines will reduce the chances of bird nests. If the sinker/lure/live bait was too heavy or too light, you’ll get bird nests. It will take some time before you master conventional reels and there aren’t that many short cuts.
I think I know where your problem is. If I am correct, I think you got nasty bird nests during the initial stage of your cast. The reason you got those bird nests is because your rig lost momentum when it started to pull on the spool while your spool gained momentum. Simply put, your rig slowed down while your spool accelerated. This will make your reel give out extra line faster than your rig could carry it across the water; all those extra line will become your bird nest. This problem is quite obvious with some conventional reels especially when your spool (with line) reached certain weight. I am telling you the concept because not all conventional reels cast similarly. You’ll need to find out what kind of swing and what kind of thumbing worked the best for your reel.
By the way, a spinning reel is not recommended for conventional rods. The line guides are too small and not suitable for spinning reels.
