I wish to change my racers drop handlebars to timetrial style bars, but to keep my RSX dual control levers?
I have a ridgeback rapide which I am having serviced after a long lay -off, when rode it up to the shop I found the drop bars too cramped and skittish for my liking these days, I would like to change to a more upright style of bar, but one which will save me having to swap my dual control levers (i.e. can afford new bars and tape, can’t afford new levers)
I’ve seen the likes of profile bars which are too agressive, but I’ve also seen timetrial bars that look like short flat bars but with bar-end style drops.
Has anybody else fitted such bars and kept their levers? I’ll be apying a shop to do the work, but what else should I bear in mind? Are there any products that have worked well for you?
Am I better to change to downtube gear shifters and regular mtb levers (will these work with dual pivot shimano road brakes?)
I am cycling for fitness rather than out and out speed or racing, comfort and control are the main priorities.

One simple solution could be to change the handlebars stem for one that is adjustable. That is, for one where you can vary the angle of your handlebars so they are closer and higher.
A stem similar to what some Mountain bikes have or similar to what many urban bikes have. It would be the less expensive solution, and you can adjust your present handlebars as you see fit, (plus brakes, dual control, etc. would remain untouched).
