Fishing reel bail does not close completely?
I have a shimano solstace 2000 open face spinning reel and for some reason the bail does not like to close all of the way. I have always manually closed it but just recently whenever I need to set the hook on a fish the bail opens and allows the line to spool out. Anyone know how to fix this?
Well, if there’s no springiness to it, the bail spring is broken or has slipped out of its position. If the spring still works, then either the reel is gummed up and needs a cleaning, or the bail itself is bent out of shape so it doesn’t move freely.
Anyway, I would take it apart and figure out whether it needs a cleaning, a bail spring, or a bail (or something else — it actually might just be something like a loose screw). Then I’d clean it and/or get replacement parts(s). But if you’re not comfortable with doing this work on your reel, take it to a tackle shop which services Shimanos, and have them fix it.
