which reel should i get for big yellowtail and 100 pound tuna?

i will be fishing offshore in southern cal;ifonria on my dads 26 ft striper, which reel should i get , a shimano torium 20 or a 30? (size)
i will be using 65 braid 40 lb topshot .. im 13 years old

Off southern California (unless you make the 100 mile run to the Cortez bank, which is a bit far for a 26 foot boat), you’re not likely to mess with 100 pound class tuna — in fact, most of the fish will be under 30 pounds. Most likely you won’t see yellows over 30 pounds too often either. The smaller reel (Torium 20) is still plenty strong enough for 40-pound line, it’ll hold plenty of the braid backing, and it’ll make casting easier… plus when the fish get picky and you have to switch down to a 30 or 20 pound topshot to get bit, the reel won’t overpower the line.

When the yellows or tuna get stupid you can catch them on rope, but that’s rare, and often lowering your line size will make a huge difference in getting bit. It’ll also make things easier if you end up fishing inshore for bass or barracuda.
