dear anglers what are the market genuine spinning reels brands (not made in china)?
diwa,penn,okuma —etc
abu is still made in sweden l believe. unless they’ve turned the factory into making chain saws. van staal is definitely made here. another brand – U.S.A. appears to be made here but BPS’s ads really don’t say. l’m not familiar with any ardent spinning reels. maybe so. l only see that brand in cabela’s book. fin-nor, while not being too sure, do carry the lines of a chinese product. they all seem to have that little gold colored cap on the “quality” chinese reels. penn, unfortunately, has moved to the other side of the world. daiwa and shimano are good quality japanese products although they may farm out some of their models to where labor is cheaper.
zebco is still in oklahoma but a lot of their reels are still imported from asia.
all the good fly reels are made here or england. my dad used to build abel reels. a so cal product.
all but a very few of the bait casters come from china. abu, the better daiwas and shimanos, ardent.
some high end S/W conventionals are made here. too costly for me.
but we have enough old mitchells, penns and other good quality gear that l won’t be needing to get any new ones for quite a while. my pop and l have been collecting for a number of years.
who was that other guy that said he had the corner on rambling??
