do i need a different surf rod?
I have a rod that is 7’2 long and i am surf fishing in myrtle. I am using 20 pound test line and want to be able to cast over 50 yards(using a penn general levelwind reel) do i need a surf rod over 7’2?
You should be fine if you are casting fairly heavy weighted lures or bait. But if you are casting un-weighted bait or light lures then you’ll need a longer rod.
Generally most people use a 11ft+ rod for surf fishing anyway. You can find reasonable surf rods on Bass Pro & Cabelas for a good price.
