I’m trying to find a fishing pole for my boyfriend for Christmas and I’m not sure which would be best for him.

He’s 5’6″ but I dont know if height has anything to do with length of the pole. The two I am considering are a 6’6″ Shimano AX Spinning combo (http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=336178&kwtid=238543) and a 5’6″ South Bend Microlite R2F Panfish Spin Cast (cant find a link). I dont know what any of these words mean and I dont know what to look for! He will probably be fishing mostly in local freshwater lakes for small bass and trout. Please help!!!

Ok so freshwater fishing on occasion. And under $30.00? That’s kind of tough. Under 30.00 and your looking and a pretty bad rod. But Shimano brand has a rod called Convergence and its pretty good. Don’t think they have a combo though so you would have to buy a reel and that would put you over to about 60.00. If he doesn’t mind losing some rod sensitivity he can go the good ole Ugly Stik route. they have combo packages for 40.00 or so. The reels aren’t the best but they are good for someone who doesn’t fish all that much. Rhyno brand rods are pretty cheap and you can find them at most retail stores. they aren’t the best but it will work until you/he can afford something better. Being that you don’t fish (i am assuming this) much of this wont make much sense. Do you know anyone you can take to a tackle shop or store with? Maybe give your boyfriend a giftcard and let him pick it out.
