how to tell if a fish took your bait?
i fish A LOT on the surf but I always seem to miss fish. they tear my bait off!!! How do I tell if a fish is biting on my bait? I refuse to use any electronics and stuff. I’m using Shimano Tirajelo 10′, 1-3 oz. with a Fin-Nor Ahab loaded with Stren Superbraid 30 lb test lo-vis green AND a Daiwa Saltiga Ballistic Surf rod, 13’3″, 2-10 oz oz. with a Saltiga Surf loaded with Stren Superbraid 30 lb test lo vis green. On a boat, I use Penn rod and reels with what I believe is 20-30 lb test. I catch Stripers, Porgies, Bottom fish (sea bass, tautogs, fluke, flounder and the accidental sea robin) PLEASE RESPOND!!!!!
awesome answers already but you might want to consider losing a little bit of that weight and maybe try casting in different areas because you are probably getting cleaned out by a whole school of tiny fish. make sure to hold the line as tight as possible and try putting 1 or more fingers on the line and once you feel anything give it a pull…make sure to check your line frequently and also try using baits that are more durable and stay on the hook longer…also say if your using a squid hook it a hell of a lot of times so that you will feel the fish take the bait…well hope I could help you and hope you catch many nice/large fish!!!
