i need advice on which rod to get?
im going to buy a shimano curado this year and wanna pair it with a good rod. i dont want to spend over $300 for the combo. i cant decide between berkley lightning rod shock (7’0″ MH) or fenwick eagle gt rod (7’0″ MH F action). i will be using jigs, crank baits, spinner baits ,top water baits, etc. i dont have the money to buy several reels and rods for different situations.
thanks for the replies! i want to stay away from cabelas brand stuff because i have had bad experiences with their products. i mainly fish large mouth bass. the cabelas where i live is small compared to the other ones and they dont stock a variety of rods. the ones they do have are pricey. i do have a cherry wood rod from berkley and i like it. i just wanna try something different.
Your choice of reels is very good, and one that will last a long time with proper care. For the rod, this is something many fishermen go wrong, or at least can do better if they know what the options are. Many rod builders are now building rods for specific tasks i.e. flipping, plastic worm, jigs etc. so my personal choice is a low cost, good reputation 6 footer like Berkley or even Zebco which enables me to buy two maybe three different rods instead of one expensive rod.
When you’re at the store, pick a rod out and hold it like you would in use then ever so lightly run the tip of the rod on the floor and notice the sensitivity and where it bends when down pressure is applied. Those two factors will almost always determine which rod for which application fishing you’ll be doing.
Keep in mind too when selecting a rod, you’ll make thousands of casts for a small number of keeper fish, so there’s no need to spend a lot for little return because your reel will be doing the important part of the fishing trip.
