Is the penn 309 level wind reel reversible?
looking to buy a baitcaster reel for my rod, wondering if the penn 309 level wind reel is reversible?
Well first of all what do you mean by reversible? Do you mean that it can be switched for left handed use, or that the spool will spin backwards or that the crank will reverse? Then the second question is do you realize that the 309 is a normal level wind reel and not designed for baitcasting. Penn no longer makes the reel in the US, and I couldn’t find any information about it on the Penn website. Further research online reveals that the reel is being made in China and is back on the market. If it has the Penn name on the reel, it’s probably legal, but once again the reel is actually designed for boat fishing not for bait casting.
If what you’re asking for is if the reel can be adapted to left handed use, then yes it can. The exploded view diagram for the 309M says that the parts for the left handed version aren’t shown. That at least means they exist. You’ll need to contact Penn to find out how to order that kit.
