What line should i use for surf fishing in surfside beach sc? (myrtle beach)?
I am going to myrtle in april, and would like to get some info on surf fishing. i have a penn reel rated for 20 to 30 pound mono line. i know i can put 100 pound braid on but i dont know a lot about it. What should i do?
It sounds like you have a reel that will do the job. For line I use the Cajun Red line on my spinning reels. It has low memory and they say the fish can not see it in the water, I live in Louisiana and fish for red fish and have no trouble catching them and I use a 14 lb.test line. I think that would surfise for you and handle most of what you would catch.
One thing to remember when putting the line on a reel, Have the spool facing the reel and the line comming off it in a counter clockwise rotation and going on your reel in a clock wise rotation. Do not put the spool of line on a pencle or such and load the reel, this couses the line to unravel on the reel when you cast.
Stay away from the braid line unless you have a rod designed for it. Braid line couses excessive ware to the rod guides and in time they will snag on the line and limit your casting ability.
