Are Saltwater Reel Parts
why has fishing become rocket science?

I started saltwater spin fishing (trolling and surf fishing) at the beginning of this year and would like to think I’m reasonably competent. But i find the technical part of it mind boggling almost like rocket science. Internet forums are often ablaze with passionate discussions about tackle etc. Since when did fishing become so complicated? and what can i do to learn the technical side of it? eg which reel to match with which rod. been having a tough time with that.

Ha ha, I was thinking the same thing a while back. Back in the day it was simple, a cane pole , line and a hook. They would pull triple digit tuna out of the water with this set up and then at the same time A cane pole would load up a bucket with bream, catfish and bass from a nearby lake . Now we have all these acronyms and what not to make gear sound more than it really is. ” A-RB ( anti rust brakes) , VBS (variable brake system), HEG ( high efficiency gearing) and a ton more…WTF? ( what the F…uhhh, never mind.) I got caught up for a second there, my bad. ; ) I honestly don’t know what happened between then and now but I have to admit, I miss those days of old. I sit here thinking about it all and realize that fishing is only as complicated as you want it to be. You don’t need all that Arb, Heg’s or LMNOP’s…if it feels right in your hands, works the way you want it to and all is good, then that’s the only thing you need to know about fishing gear. Trying to compete with peer pressure from fellow anglers for top shelf items is a waste of time. A fish doesn’t know a Zebco from a Zee-Baas. It’s how you play the game that matters. ~good luck catchin’
