I need Help With My Rustler xl5 not the vxl version?

Hello, I have a Rustler XL-5 (3705) mine isn’t waterproof. Anyways I was driving my model than a weird noise started to happen. Then the car started to go slower. The noise is eeeeeeeee. So I went inside and found where the noise is coming from. On the other side of the motor I saw the gears. I noticed the little gear is spining but the big gear isn’t spining at all. Please give me very detailed instructions on how to fix it.

The problem with your rustler is that your spur gear (the bigger one) is not coming in contact with the motor gear (smaller one.) this can happen when a lot of vibration occurs and the motor becomes loose. How to fix:

Start by taking the wheel off.

Now remove the two screws that hold on the transmission casing (its the big plastic thing covering the gears)

Now check your spur gear for signs of wear… if it looks pretty beat up you should get a new one. If not, continue on.

Loosen the two screws that hold the motor in place. This will allow you adjust the motor gear to get it closer to the spur gear. Make sure when you adjust it the two gears mesh really well and they are both centered directly on top of each other.

When you feel the two gears are meshed together well, (take a piece of paper and run it through the gears. It should make a nice pattern of folds but not tear the paper) tighten the motor screws again real tight.

Turn the wheels and see if the spur gear and motor gear turn together. If so, put it all back together and you should be set.
