Is there problems with using saltwater reels in freshwater?
I want to get a Penn fierce and I was wondering what’s the big difference between fresh and salt water reels?
Btw sorry about the questions grammar.. I’m a little tired haha.
The main problem with using saltwater reels in freshwater is the reel’s size. You don’t need a huge reel to fish in freshwater. Bigger reels tend to have heavier line and unless you’re fishing for big bass with big swimbaits or for big catfish that will take you into the brush, you don’t need super heavy line.
I’ve seen people at my local lake using heavy saltwater gear while fishing for trout and bluegill. It’s hilarious. They’ll use this 10 or 11 foot surf rod with a spinning reel loaded with 25 or 30 pound mono with a tiny tiny trout spinner at the end of their line… and they try so damn hard to get it way out there but it only lands no more than 10 feet away from them.
