Daiwa Shimano

Daiwa Shimano
Who makes better spinning rods, Daiwa or Shimano?

Saw a daiwa combo at sports authority yesterday for 80 bucks. looked like a steal. But there was also a shimano combo for 75 bucks.

Both are medium action 8 – 16 lb line, 7 feet long, cork handles, spinning reels, none pre-spooled.

Will be casting for bass and walleye, pike? and whatever else decides to bite my lure.
Will be using 1/5 to 1 ounce lures.

Your willing to spend $80 on a combo outfit?

Why not spend a little more and get something better?

Here’s a couple inexpensive, (but decent), options for ya-

1. Pflueger President- 177 people give the President a 4.5 out of 5-read all the reviews at BPS- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_51666_100001002_100000000_100001000_100-1-2

Personally, I’d rather have a really good Pflueger than a mid-level Shimano Sedona, Shimano Sonara or Daiwa Regal……

2. Berkley Shock Rod- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_104159____SearchResults (Guys in my Bass clubs have been purchasing these because they are cheap, strong, light-weight and durable. The next rod I purchase will be a Shock.)

So for $20 more you could have a nicer combo….

By the way, do you know how they ship combo’s???

They ship them in huge box’s wrapped together with no real consideration to “breakage”. Plus, combo rods are usually “2nds” that didn’t pass inspection……..

The point?

If you decide to purchase an already matched combo, pick through them carefully testing EACH one. Look at the guides, (make sure they are straight on the blank), check the stiffness of the rod, (just because it SAYS Medium does not mean it won’t be a medium heavy or a medium light), Etc.

Also, because they are generally shipped so “slip-shod”, check the reel handles and bail for any bending or warping. They get banged around pretty good in shipping. (While I was working as a Manager at a Sports AU Store we ALWAYS had AT LEAST 2-4 combo’s per shipped box that had a “dud” in it’s midst. So be careful when inspecting the combo you decide to buy.)

So, if you do plan to purchase an already matched combo inspect it CAREFULLY. And one word- Shimano!

Hope this helps ya Mole? Good luck.

UPDATE: Why would one give a thumbs down for an opinion? A thumbs down with no explanation? How chicken-s%#t is that?
