Can someone suggest a surf-casting rod/reel set-up for around $200?
I’m looking to spend about $200 on a rod and reel for my father-in-law. He is a complete novice to surfcasting and saltwater fishing, so he doesn’t need a top of the line equipment just yet. With that said, I want to get him something that is mid-grade so he can “grow” into it.
I’ve been looking at the Daiwa Emcast Plus reel, model #ECP5500. And the Emcast Surf rods. But I’m having trouble deciding on a specific rod to compliment the reel/line weight.
Any suggestions regarding this set-up or any others?
Also, fishing will be done on the Connecticut coast. Target fish most likely blues and stripers.
when fishing for stripers and bluefish you want the lightest rod/reel possible. i would look for a penn 704z in the best condition possible. it will cost between 100-120. they are tough reels and will last forever.. for a rod i would look at the lamiglas surf king SK10MS. a good rod for casting lugs.
