Questions re: upgrade bike components before weekend bike trip?
The wife and I are getting ready to head to Tennesse for some fun and plan on doing a lot of biking. I have a Canndondale Comfort 5 bike with the following specs:
Front Derailleur: SRAM 3.0
Rear Derailleur: Shimano Alivio
Rear Cogs: SunRace M66, 8-speed: 11-32
ShiftersL Shimano Revo twist
Tires: CST Traveller, 26 x 2.0
Should I consider any upgrades before I put this bike on long rides? Obviously won’t be doing any heavy duty mountain biking since this is a comfort bike, but will be riding on trails and plan on putting some serious mileage on it this year. I’ve been told my front derailleur is low-end, but will I see a performance enhancement with a better unit? Also I hear tires are very important too.
I don’t know much about hybrid bikes but as long as it’s shifting properly I can’t see a reason to upgrade right before a trip. If anything, a new set of tires might be a good idea that way you won’t have to deal with wear on existing ones. Be sure to pack spare tubes as well.
