gear for pike and muskee fishing?
what kind of lures do i need to be successful in reeling in these monsters?what type of line?spinning or bait cast?thanks in advance
In the Wi. northwoods I personally like the following: For pike I’ve had my best luck on the Mepps spinner with a rubber minnow. For Musky, I love using a Hog Wobbler (yellow bottom/black top seems to be the preferred color) from mid June through the summer. There’s nothing like watching a 40+inch musky slam a topwater bait. Bigger Pike, and even 5lb or bigger smallmouths will also hit the Hog Wobblers in mid summer. Most anglers use at least 30lb, up to 50lb line on a medium to heavy rod so you can bring the fish in fast and release it with as little stress as possible. On spinning gear a good non-stretch mono line is best. For bait casting gear I’ve heard good things about the new braided lines. I personally prefer and use spinning gear, but that choice is more dependent on what you are most comfortable with. No matter which set-up you choose, a good wire leader is a must with these toothy predators. Good luck and land a big-un.
