What is wrong with my Shimano fishing reel?
I have a FX-4000FB fishing reel. I used it once and i bought it about 2 weeks ago and I don’t know much about fishing. The problem with it is that the thing that holds all the string doesnt go up and down when you reel it. It is supposed even out the string when you reel in a fish. My dad does know about these things and the screw on the top is all the way twisted and it is pretty tight. Is something wrong with the internals??
Yea, there is a little cog that spins inside along with the handle which in turn spins another cog that moves the spool up and down (for the reason you stated). I would say that A: there is a piece broken on the arm that holds the spool or B: somehow the gears lost contact with one another. This would take quite a jarring experience, however. I would unscrew the drag knob and take the spool off to see what I can see, you might find the problem just there. If not, take it to the bait shop where you bought it and ask them to take a look. Good luck.
